Mélat’s maintained her unique presence in Austin’s music scene for so long now that she’s even got her own official day dedicated by Mayor Steve Adler. (Mark your calendar for the December 14th turn up.)
So naturally, she and her whole girl squad roll around Austin like the queens they are, all the while singing sweet, soulful nothings to an unseen lover in “After All.” But there’s much more than summer R&B lovestruck vibes here. It’s impossible to describe the power of being among other black women in a town that’s losing minorities faster than any other growing city in the US, so here’s a peek into the magic courtesy of Mélat’s video, which she describes as “love by virtue of identity through the lens of a girl squad comprised of Austin’s often underrepresented Black woman, running around the Live Music Capital of the World – simply put, being fly.”

“Too long I been doing this on my own
But inevitably here you are
With a love that outshines the stars”
