DAY 26 | SIDE B — “Bezerk” by Big Sean (f. A$AP Ferg)

Remember those syrupy, jewel-colored juice grenades almost synonymous with childhood summer adventures? They turn sinister in the hands of a little demon child, sending Detroit rapper Big Sean and his Harlem collaborator A$AP Ferg on a hallucinatory chase through the hood in “Bezerk.”

From the offbeat opening, two of rap’s hottest set the video’s tone. They look fly AF in their Coogi and Burberry threads, while debating a totally absurd conspiracy theory about the dangers of Arizona Iced Tea in front of a convenience store. With an assist from producer Hit-Boy, Big Sean and A$AP Ferg avoid all sorts of hood traps laid for them, like killer hair waves and mouths that can’t stop running. By the time Big Sean employs a wave cap to parachute off a luxury watch in the shape of Big Ben, you’ll believe in their rap superpowers, too.

The dynamic duo is so unstoppable, they make a huge departure from the traditional rap collaboration, and instead of each taking their individual turn on the track, Big Sean and A$AP Ferg “go back to back on the verse,” seamlessly trading lines throughout. That fluid lyricism over Hit-Boy’s hypnotic back-beat creates a dizzying 2-and-a-half minutes you might spend pausing and rewinding to catch every little nugget.

True to its title, “Bezerk” is just wild, lighthearted fun between two amazing talents who’ve – especially in Big Sean’s case – already racked up tons of awards, achievements, collaborations and accolades between them, and just came here to drop a soundtrack for people having a good time. That’s right.
